5 Of The Greatest Christian Reads

There are a lot of Christian books in the world right now. Most of them are good, and others not so much. So, what makes a book really great? It comes down to a few things.

First, it should be inspiring. A book that motivates action and brings hope to the reader is a book that has done its job well. A motivational book that tells you, “Just keep doing what you’re doing and it’ll all be okay,” would not be much of a help to anyone. It should make a person want to improve themselves. There is a lot of change in life and a good book can a be a tool that will help someone in their spiritual journey.

Second, it should make the reader want to move closer to God. A book that uses scripture and teaches about ways to connect to the Lord can help a Christian develop a healthy relationship with Him. A believer should be trying to have a deeper connection with Lord in everyday life.

Third, a good book should value righteous morals. Things like integrity, commitment, courage, and honesty are all examples of great morals. If someone has strayed off the path of following God, a good book can remind them that at any time they can turn back and start living a moral life again. God is forgiving and desires all His children to repent and come back to Him.

So, what are some of the greatest morally good, motivating and inspiring books in the world of faith? Here’s a list.

#1 Jesus Calling by Sarah Young

This book is full of daily devotionals with scripture and positive messages. There is an inspiring message with scripture for every day of the year. Many people have found this book to bring hope and peace in their walk with God.

#2 Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis

This popular book by C.S. Lewis has been well-loved for many years. It has a message about moral law and repentance, among other topics. Right and wrong are things often talked about in the Christian community, and Lewis does a great job at explaining why we need to know the Creator of the universe in order to understand morality. A great quote from the book is, “God is the only comfort, He is also the supreme terror: the thing we most need and the thing we most want to hide from.”

#3 Boundaries by Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend

This book has some great advice on setting limits with others. The authors talk about what boundaries are, how to have them, and why they are important. It is a great read for anyone looking to become more confident and secure and less entangled with the people around them.

#4 Amazing Love by Corrie Ten Boom

This book by Corrie Ten Boom (a Christian and survivor of the Nazi concentration camps) recounts stories of her journey around the world sharing the good news of Christ. Her bravery to teach and speak unashamedly about God is both impressive and inspiring. If you like hearing about people meeting God for the first time, this book is for you.

#5 The Holy Bible

This list wouldn’t be complete without the best (and #1 most sold) book of all time, the Holy Bible. If you are just starting out in your Christian faith, start here. The book of John is often a recommended place to begin. The living word of God is encouraging, transformative, full of redemption, and also packed with stories of imperfect people like you and me.

So now that you’ve read a list of influential books, you can go find yourself one at your local bookstore or library. One of them just might become your new favorite!
